Kesteven Rugby Club rounded off their most successful season with their annual President's Day match between the 1st team against a Mike Money's select side.

Before the match the club received two prestigious awards from the Rugby Football Union. The Club was recognised as one of the elite clubs in Notts Lincs and Derbys by achieving RFU Accreditation. This is awarded to clubs who meet a strict set of criteria in their organisation and management of the game. The Club has a fine reputation in the way it runs rugby at Mini, Junior and Adult levels through the high standard of coaching. It is also a very friendly and welcoming club to all members young and old. This was presented to Club President Mike Money by Mike Waplington Rugby Football Union Council Representative for NLD. He congratulated the club on its great work.

The second award was a runners up prize in the RFU President's Awards "This is Rugby" Category. This is a national award to reward clubs who go above and beyond to ensure that its members act in the best interests and spirit of Rugby. Secretary Bill Berridge received this award on behalf of the Club.

The match proved to be very competitive. The President's team which was gathered form Thatcham, Sleaford Boston and Kesteven were proving hard to break down. Kesteven were forced into kicking for position, a tactic which the President's team were able to answer. Indeed President's should have opened the scoring following an interception but somehow they lost the ball as the line beckoned. This fright caused K's to re-evaluate their options and when they were awarded a penalty 40 metres out Chris Galloway stepped up to kick the goal. Straight from the restart Danny Turner caught the ball and broke through the first defensive line to set up the move which ended with Will Cann racing between the posts for the first try. President's kept up the pressure and a penalty attempt drifted wide. Turner caught the ball deep in his own half and quickly took play into the Presidents half. When challenged he chipped over the defence to gather and score. Galloway converted both to take the score to 17 - 0 at the break.

The second half started well for the President's team as they opened their account in the first minute of the half before Cann got his second try. The President's team kept the match alive with a second try to narrow the gap to 12 points. The decisive score came 20 minutes into the half - President's were making good progress but when the move broke down Scott Odams took possession on half way and raced away for a great try to his obvious delight. Galloway converted again with a fine kick from far out

This broke the spirit of the guest team as first Jake Hughes broke through at great pace to score then Olly Wood set off on an arcing run to score. President's were not quite done and got a third try before Whittaker and Jake Hughes finished the game with two late tries. Galloway's goal kicking had been exemplary and converted most of these tries to make the final score 55 - 17 to the Kesteven side. A perfect end to a magnificent season.
