Kesteven scored plenty of tries in a patchy performance overall.

Saturday 10th October 2015.

Saturday was a crisp and dry autumnal day. Kesteven had a slightly changed pack with Osbourne coming into the second row. Kesteven kicked off and right from the start their intent was clear, putting huge pressure on the receiver and turning the ball over. Kesteven made line breaks and ground through hard running from forwards and centres for the first 10 minutes. From the 10th minute Kesteven had a purple patch with Goodrich scoring from a long way out with a signature break. He followed his break up with another run that set up Scott Odams running strongly in support.

Adam Draper, later named man of the match, then sniped over finding a gap around the Sleaford fringes. Adam continued to find holes all day setting numerous attacks up with his fringe attacks. One such attack brought Draper up to the opposition 22 where he neatly offloaded to Captain Webster. Sadly a tackle to the knee five meters out ended Webster’s afternoon with a ligament injury, maybe the unlucky new boots were a bad idea!

Kesteven then scored another 1st half try from wing Taylor making a scorching run beating several players down his wing. Credit to Sleaford they then battled back to make the last 5 minutes of the 1st half very competitive. Sleaford were camped only 5 meters from the Kesteven line. At this point flanker Armstrong committed one too many offences and was given 10 minutes in the sin bin to read up on the laws of the game.

The second half was a scrappy affair with both teams hearing the whistle blown against them consistently. Sleaford worked hard and were rewarded with two second half tries. When Kesteven did get some clean ball they made Sleaford pay scoring tries from Whittaker (X2), Taylor again and Jack Berry.

Kesteven were happy to take the bonus point win against old rivals Sleaford, but on the day know they left plenty of points out there due to indiscipline.

Next week the league takes a break for cup action with the 1st team taking on Stamford away.

Kesteven Team:

Odams, Sheardown, Purvis, Cowley, Osbourne, Webster, Armstrong, Woolerton, Draper, Wood, Taylor, Goodrich, Berry, Miles, Whittaker.
