Kesteven Rugby run out winners in the Global Payments Tigers Touch Tournament at Welford Road

(Report from Tobias Whinney)

Friday saw Kesteven Rugby put forward an enthusiastic mixed team to participate in the Global Payments Tigers Touch Tournament at Welford Road under the cooperate name Techtrak.

A total of 14 teams participated in typically wet weather with an exemplary display of rugby spirit at its best.
The team played 6 pool matches, coming joint 3rd on points with two other sides out of 7 with a fantastic display of outrageous try scoring moves and a stoic defensive effort on the increasingly sodden hallowed turf.

The team qualified for the bowl semi finals, keen on showing just what makes our family club such a close one. Every player showcased unbelievable skills in the rain, scoring the best try of the tournament to beat a very competitive outfit.

This led to the final which proved to be the longest match of the day coming down to a golden try period of extra time, lasting longer than the match itself after a 0-0 scoreline. Following a heroic effort from all members of both sides, Techtrak won the Bowl following a well-read intercept.

Having had the pleasure of officiating all 8 of the team’s matches today, it was an excellent day out for all of the mighty Black Army. What a way to end the season, roll on 2019/2020!
