Unlikely comeback from K's after glacially slow start!

Pre-Match
Due to recent adverse weather and flooding in Newark, this away fixture was switched to Woodnook at the last minute. It was agreed to play 3x thirds to give 2 large squads the ability to field all players.

First Third
Playing uphill and into the wind, K's started slowly against a passionate and committed Newark team. Newark were strong in the ruck/jackel and K's coughed up the ball far too easily. This was exacerbated by K's being particularly narrow and some poor defensive kicking, allowing the Newark backs to profit from their forward's dominant performance, with Newark scoring 5 tries before K's woke up, 0-25.

K's stemmed the flow late in the first third through a try from Will H to reduce the deficit to 20 points before Newark capped a dominant first third performance with a fifth try to leave the score 5-30 at the end of a period that had been played almost entirely in K's half.

Second Third
Playing downhill and with the wind behind, K's began the long road back with a typically swashbuckling try from Tom McD, 10-30. From K's kick-off, Tom McD then recovered the ball, K's rucked over and fed Will who went on a long, strong run from just inside Newark's half to score again, 15-30.

Oscar then got in on the action, touching down to take the score to 20-30 before Lukas scored his first try for the club, touching down from close range to narrow the gap to just 5 points, 25-30. Well done Lukas!

Shortly after, Oscar scored his second of the game, restoring parity on the scoreboard for the first time, 30-30.

By this point, almost the entire game had been played in one half of the pitch, so K's knew they had their work cut out in the final third.

Third Third
The final third was an attritional affair, with both sides battling hard against one another. K's were once again playing uphill and into the wind, but a break from Oscar set up a try for Dan to run in, putting K's ahead for the first time, 35-30. Dan clearly had a taste for it now, and ran in another try to extend the score to ten, 40-30. K's were battling hard and sensed an unlikely comeback, which was sealed by Oscar to touched down for his third and K's ninth try to take the final score to 45-30 in favour of K's.

Post Match
Both sides were battered, bruised and covered in mud as they shook hands and congratulated one another after the game. K's got the bragging rights but had had a scare! The players deserve immense respect for their strength, resilience and determination to comeback from an unlikely position to score 40 unanswered points against a strong Newark squad. Tom McD had an immense game and several players stepped up, but Man of the Match was Josh G for a phenomenal double tackle as last man which even the Newark Coach praised. Well done Josh!
