Brave performance from K's as injuries take their toll

On a cold but clear morning, a depleted K's squad of 19 players travelled to Syston in Leicestershire for our first fixture against this opposition.

First Half
Playing on the first XV pitch, K’s kicked-off. Syston enjoyed the early possession and a great tackle from Josh G prevented an early Syston try. K's apparent injury curse of recent weeks reared it's ugly head in the first minute when Joel was helped from the field by Zoe with knee issues.

Syston's early momentum benefitted from some missed tackles from K's as their strong-running number 7 and centre started to enjoy themselves, as Syston scored 2 tries, 10-0.

From kick-off, a good run from Ollie Martin took K's into Syston's half for the first time. An unpunished high tackle on Dan saw him leave the field, quickly followed by Joe D, Will, Callum and Nathan as K's were unable to gain any momentum with the bench coming into play very early in the match.

The disruption didn't help K's who conceded another try (despite the knock-on), edging System to a three-score lead, 15-0. K's were then on the wrong-end of another unfortunate decision as the tacked player twice failed to release the ball on the ground, continuing their run to score with what many believed to be a double movement, 20-0.

Second Half
Syston's strong running continued early in the second half as their number 7 scored again, extending the score to 25-0.

K's got some respite soon after, being awarded a penalty try for a tackle on Wyatt without the ball, 25-5. Ridiculously, the game restarted with the referee otherwise engaged on the sidelines!

Following good work in the midfield between Alfred and Zach, Dylan used his pace down the right-wing to score K's second, only to be rewarded with a ball booted into his face from a frustrated Syston player. K's had their tails up finally and some momentum despite the early setbacks.

Unfortunately, momentum was lost as an attempted kick through went straight into the hands of Syston's strongest, most elusive runner who finished from distance, 30-10. K's then missed several tackles, leading to the same player scoring a further brace, 40-10.

There was then another tackle on a K's player without the ball when clear, which went unpunished. A nice exchange between Oscar and Wyatt almost created an opportunity as K's dug deep.

Josh G's strong run was rewarded with a third try, before a strong, straight run from Callum took the score to 40-20 before Syston's MOTM scored a final try leaving the final score at 45-20.

Post Match

MOTM was shared between Mason and Alfred A - well played lads.
