After a pleasant Sunday morning in the Lincolnshire county, the away fixture at Market Harborough saw a change in the conditions to “proper rugby weather” as the rain started shortly before the kick off. This certainly didn’t deter either of theteams who approached the fixture with energy and enthusiasm. From the outset the Kesteven girls showed their unity as a team, communicating from the first kick which set up the picture of the game throughout. The forwards controlled every moment of thegame. Brooke S made a number of strong runs, tackling hard, rucking and held the defensive line well. Rosie was a defensive warrior, covered the loose balls, made a number of powerful tackles and chased back to cover a box kick from M/Harborough stopping theirattacking move. Jeff was a powerhouse in the rucking and balldozed over for her try. Esme was ruthless with her strength in the tackles and driving home the majority of tries with her strong legs....... The backs were not to be out done and played theirpart in the team effort too....... Maria flying down the wing, tackling and positioning herself well, a totally fearless player who without a doubt scored the try of the game. Brooke H showed her skills as a winger too driving down the touchline for hertry after a number of defiant tackles. Finally the scrum half..... Heidi, worthy of her position –speedily off the mark, was involved in every play and even managed her first try of the season when she charged down a loose ball that she took advantage ofto cross the try line.

As the game progressed, it was clear that the balance wasn’t there. The final quarter of the game was played with a 5 player advantage to the home side to try and balance out the play. This, however, didn’t stop the driving force of the Ks teamwho still triumphantly drove home another 5 tries even with the numbers against them. Everyone on the side lines saw a team who played comfortably in each of their roles, showed understanding of the game, collectively and effectively worked together anddemonstrated each of the core values of rugby. This was a team performance that reflected their commitment, training and determination working together..... Well done Ks.....
