Leicester Forest v Kesteven/Melbourne– 35 v 25 Ks Lost

After a quick refresher and team talk, Kesteven were straight back out to play their second game of the afternoon, this time being partnered up with their counterparts from Melbourne to take on Leicester Forest who certainly proved tough competition, given their relatively new team establishment. It was the away girls who took the lead following some clever play between Heidi, Jeff and Rosie which set Olivia running down the wing. Forest levelled this almost immediately and then drove home a two try advantage as Ks seemed to be caught unaware of their pace, something which would soon become their “Achilles heal” throughout the match. The game tightened up across the middle of the park then as both sides fought hard to gain ground but this didn’t deter the visitors as their persistence began to pay off resulting in the half ending with a tied score line. The second half began as the last half ended with Kesteven touching down over the try line after some quick thinking from Heidi having received the ball from Georgia, allowing Brooke to make easy work of side stepping the defence. This was followed with a section of careless mistakes from the black army girls who then couldn’t recover with the pace of the sprinting Forest attack allowing their advantage. It has to be said that this game highlighted their refusal to be accept a defeat as they kept fighting to the last which was rewarded with adding to the points for the day before the final whistle.

Overall, a number of positives from the games including new girl Georgia’s progress, power in the tackle, rucking, communication and strength going forward. It is always hard to have consistency when combining with other players to increase the team size but plenty to work on.
Scorers: Olivia 2, Brooke 3
