On a beautifull autumn sunday morning K's play some of their best rugby

Kesteven U16's 44 v 5 Skegness U16's

Written by Roy Stewart

What a lovely day for a brilliant game of rugby, K's played with determination, purpose, intelligence and skill with great results.
With the game barely 5 minutes old the forwards drove towards the Skegness line, putting phase after phase of forward play together before Ben took the ball on a solo drive and passed to Marcus to score K's first try and his first try for the club.

From the kick off K's had a small period of hesitation which had Skegness pegging them back with the ball being fed to their excellent centre to score. Tom Mawer then seeing no full back put a lovely chip in for Kavan to score a try. With pressure building on the Skegness defence a quick tap penalty and looping pass from Tom allowed captain for the day, Tim, to score a try.

K's now had Skegness on the back foot with great driving and rucking which set up Tom Mawer who dummied the Skegness defence, steal through a gap and score leaving it 20 v 5 at half time.

K's made a few changes at half time but the pressure was kept up on a Skegness side that kept on trying till the end. Turnover ball was quickly moved to the wing and sub Tom Miles brushed aside three players to score. The forwards then went on a drive leading to a break by Charlie Simmonds, a driving maul by the forwards was initialy held up on the Skegness line but the quick thinking Jordan Wright picked up and dived over the line. Charlie L with a conversion.

Further intense pressure paid off with more great forward work, turnover ball was moved wide resulting in a try for Rob on the wing.

With Skegness not giving up anything, K's hard work and endeavour paid off with a second try for Kavan and a second conversion for Charlie L.

Great credit must go to a Skegness side who, time and time again battered at the K's line and only desperate defence saved another Skegness try. Skegness played a great game of rugby and never gave up to the final whistle. All credit to Rob and Marcus who played for Skegness making their numbers up to 15.

K's today played outstanding rugby throughout the game and kept the pressure up till the very end, all the coaches agreed that the hard work on the training pitch is coming good.

It was a hard decision to pick because everyone played so well, but man of the match was Jordan
Thank you once again to Gordon for refereeing the game, the parents and coaches and most of all the Skegness boys, coaches and parents for an excellent mornings rugby
