It was a day of firsts for the Black Army U9s away at Lincoln; first competitive matches, first tackles against another team and first hot dogs of the season. With Lincoln, Market Rasen and Kesteven all fielding 2 teams there were plenty of matches played. Each team played 3 matches with both Kesteven teams finishing the day undefeated. Team 1 won against Lincoln 1 and Market Rasen 2 and drew with Market Rasen 1; Team 2 beat Lincoln 2 and drew with both Market Rasen teams. Both teams came away happy, with lots experience that will stand them in good stead for next week’s festival. What was good to see was how both teams used the touchline as an extra defender, tackling the opposing team out on numerous occasions and forcing the turnover. More work required on the ring of steel in the tackle, but an excellent start to the season.
